Gold nibs are particularly delicate, as razor blades or other, harder, materials can raise a burr on the soft metal or damage the tipping material. This interferes with ink flow and is very difficult to repair, making a bad situation (a mucked-up nib) far worse.
We are happy to offer the best solution: brass foil. Made from shim stock intended for the machining trade, this half-hard sheet is just 38 microns ( 1.5/1000″ ) thick—about the same as heavy aluminum foil, but much less "crumply". It is tough enough for repeated use and thick enough to scrape dried ink from between tines, but thin enough to trim with a pair of scissors. The brass is corrosion resistant, and will not damage any part of a pen.
Five re-usable sheets per package; measuring a handy 1″ x 1¾″, they can be used as-is, or trimmed to whatever size you find handy. $6 each, includes shipping worldwide. Questions or paypal can be sent to:firstname.lastname@example.org.
